| | History and Mythology*:
The constellation of Sagittarius is often mistakenly thought to represent Chiron (represented by the constellation Centaurus), the wisest of the Centaurs and teacher to great Greeks like Achilles, Jason and Hercules. However, Sagittarius actually is a representation of the Satyr Crotus, son of the god Pan. Crotus was the inventor of the bow and was an admirer and follower of the muses. In honor of his devotion and cleverness; the muses asked Zeus to immortalize Crotus in the stars. Thus the constellation of Sagittarius was born.
