The constellation Capricornus is one of the oldest recognized constellations and is said to be a representation of the sea goat Aigipan who helped Zeus in his fight with Typhoeus and was set among the stars as a reward.

The planet Neptune was visually confirmed and discovered by the German astronomer Johann Galle on September 23, 1846 by looking at the constellation of Capricornus.
