A Little to Know About Cats

“As every cat owner knows, nobody owns a cat.” – Ellen Perry Berkeley

Written records from ancient Egypt tell us of attempts to domesticate cats occurring around 4000 B.C. These cats were used to control the pest population and keep them away from food supplies. As years went on, they slowly began to spread throughout other areas around the world as cats became domesticated in other civilizations. Cats became popular household pets in the 18th century.

Some findings suggest that cats may have been domesticated even before 4000 B.C.. The discovery of a grave site dating back to 7500 B.C. was found in Cyprus containing a human that was buried with a cat. Since cats are not native to Cyprus, the discovery suggests that these cats must have been brought over to the area by humans.

Cats have become one of the most popular pets today and can make wonderful companions for their owners. Cats play an important role in the lives of many people. Owning a cat has health benefits and a cat can help improve the life of it’s owner. This is also true of a dog. Pets can help to reduce stress, improve your mood, and even help you to be more social. Pets are also a huge responsibility and may bring on some stress occasionally. However, the benefits of having a cat are typically greater than the drawbacks.
Although my cats can cause problems at times, I appreciate the love and accompaniment that they provide me. I can always count on them to make me feel better if I am having a bad day. All I have to do is spend some time playing or sitting with them and it helps to relax me. It seems like there is nothing more peaceful than to be in the company of a sleeping animal.

Cats provide companionship and unconditional love for their owners. Many cat owners may not even consider themselves an “owner” of the cat. Instead, the cat is a friend and part of the family. Whether you consider your furry friend a pet or a member of the family, a cat can be a loving addition to the right home.
